Only one of downtown Bowmanville's confirmed holiday events this year starts before noon. The Bowmanville Santa Claus Parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 21. Every other confirmed date between early November and the week before Christmas falls on a weekday evening or a Saturday afternoon. Most of them happen on Temperance Street or within a short walk of where it meets King Street.
Planning the season gets easier once you see that pattern. You'll be downtown on about half a dozen separate trips, mostly after work or after lunch, and you'll keep coming back to the same corner.
The parade is the one morning
The parade is the anchor most people already know. The Municipality of Clarington lists the Bowmanville Santa Claus Parade Committee as the Council committee responsible for organizing and running it each year. Durham Tourism describes the third Saturday of November as the parade's traditional date. November 21, 2026 is the third Saturday of the month.
The start time is 10:30 a.m. One participating group, Clarington Flag Football, has set aside 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for its walkers. The group says its meeting location and arrival time are still being organized. For spectators, the start time is the one firm number.
The parade committee's website shows the 2026 route as a map image. The streets aren't written out anywhere in text, so check that map before you decide where to stand or park.
The parade sits right in the middle of the season. Two November dates come before it, and December is busier after it.
November warms up on a Thursday night and a Saturday afternoon
The season starts with a shopping night. The Bowmanville BIA's Girl's Night Out runs Thursday, November 5, from 5 to 9 p.m. in Historic Downtown Bowmanville. Stores stay open late, and the BIA invites visitors to shop, dine, and discover downtown businesses. There's no stage or program. Downtown simply keeps its doors open until 9 p.m. on a weeknight. If you have gifts to buy before the parade crowds arrive, this is the evening for it.
Nine days later, the season moves to the other end of Temperance. On Saturday, November 14, Clarington Library, Museums & Archives holds a drop-in Heritage Fair at the Sarah Jane Williams Museum from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Local heritage organizations set up displays and give short presentations, and history books are for sale by donation. CLMA lists audiences for the fair from children to older adults.
The museum is at 62 Temperance Street. The fair is a Saturday afternoon on Temperance a week before the parade, and it sets the pattern December follows.
December moves onto Temperance Street
After the parade, the BIA's biggest night is Moonlight Magic on Friday, December 4. It runs from 5 to 9 p.m. on Temperance Street, and the Christmas tree-lighting ceremony starts at 6:30 p.m.
The ceremony is only part of the evening. According to the BIA's event page, complimentary horse-drawn wagon rides run along the main street from 5 p.m. The evening also includes children's entertainment, a carol sing, local choirs and bell-ringers, food vendors, and a visit from Santa. Downtown businesses stay open until 9 p.m. for that one night. Admission and parking are free. The BIA puts up large grandstands in front of the stage and suggests arriving early to get a spot.
Getting there takes more planning on this night than on any other date this season. The BIA's notice reads:
Temperance Street closed ALL DAY FRIDAY. Road closures in effect beginning 4PM Friday, with no street parking after 3PM. Parking available in municipal lots located on King Street, Silver Street, Church Street, and Division Street, and on local side streets.
In practice, if you work downtown or usually park on the street for errands, move your car by mid-afternoon. Temperance closes for the whole day, not just the evening.
Moonlight Magic also collects for a cause. The BIA asks for donations to Feed The Need in Durham at the corner of King and Temperance. Non-perishable food and money are both accepted, and the BIA says every $1 donated provides two meals. The page also mentions food and toy drives during the evening.
Three Saturdays at King and Temperance
The day after the tree lighting, the season settles into a routine at the same intersection. The BIA hosts Meet Santa on Saturday, December 5, Saturday, December 12, and Saturday, December 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. each day at the corner of Temperance and King streets.
Children receive a holiday gift. Professional photos are available for a minimum $15 cash donation to The Salvation Army Bowmanville. The BIA asks for the donation in cash, so bring some with you.
Three dates give families more flexibility than a single Santa day would. December 5 falls the day after Moonlight Magic. If Friday night was enough excitement for your household, December 12 or December 19 can be a calmer afternoon.
For the whole month, the BIA also runs FIND THE ELVES, a window hunt from December 1 to 31. Elves peek out of the windows of select downtown stores, and visitors count how many they can spot. It has no start time and no line, so you can add it to any of the other trips or do it on your own.
The galleries keep evening hours too
The Visual Arts Centre of Clarington adds two dates to the early-December stretch. VAC's 2026 exhibition Homecoming opened June 12 and closes December 6. That makes the weekend of Moonlight Magic and the first Meet Santa your last chance to see it.
VAC also lists a free screening, Day With(out) Art 2026: seeds in a dying colony, on December 1 at 6:30. It's another weekday evening, and it falls on the same day the elf hunt starts.
